About White Santa
Historical Saint Nicholas came from Myra in Asia Minor, in modern-day Turkey, and the later white-bearded Santa image developed through European folklore, literature, and illustration. The jolly, red-suited figure was solidified by cartoonist Thomas Nast and the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas".
Origins: Saint Nicholas of Myra. The legend begins with Saint Nicholas of Myra, a 4th-century Greek Christian bishop born in Patara, Lycia, in modern-day Turkey. Historical accounts often depicted him with a beard and remembered him for his generosity to the poor. Over time, particularly through Netherlands folklore and Sinterklaas, he became a revered figure bringing gifts, often portrayed in traditional bishop robes.
